Course Description

Description

This course teaches the impact of noise on hearing, the warning signs of hearing loss, and the noise exposure limits that necessitate hearing protection. It also introduces learners to types of hearing protectors, including their benefits and proper use.

This training will educate participants about the dangers of noise exposure in the workplace and strategies for preventing noise-induced hearing loss. The training will cover topics such as noise measurement, hearing protection devices (HPDs), audiometric testing, and engineering controls to reduce noise levels in the work environment.

Learning Objectives

On completion of this course, you will be able to

  • Contrast "noise," and "sound," and describe how the ear works.
  • Describe noise hazards, methods of measurement, and monitoring.
  • Describe how to eliminate or reduce noise hazards and exposure using the "Hierarchy of Controls."
  • Describe the components and benefits of a Hearing Conservation Program (HCP).
  • Describe Hearing Conservation Program (HCP) improvement and related benefits.
  • Define HCP audiometric testing, noise monitoring, and audit requirements.
Intended audience

This course is required for personnel who work in locations with or are otherwise exposed to high noise levels that may exceed 85 decibels (dBA) averaged over an 8-hour period. Those exposed to above 85 dBA averaged over 8-hours need to be enrolled in the hearing loss prevention program (HLPP). Retraining is required annually.
